Awards

Through the years, SPHA’s programs and initiatives have received recognition as “Best Practices” by the national housing industry. SPHA is known as a national leader among housing authorities, commended for our agency performance and our efforts to break new ground for the future of assisted housing.


2017

July – “Honorable Mention” in the Housing Authority Insurance Group’s 2017 Risk Management Awards for SPHA’s efforts to enhance Employee Safety.  Also earned “Four Star Performer” status for zero claims on either property or liability insurance.

2016

July – “Honorable Mention” in the Housing Authority Insurance Group’s 2016 Risk Management Awards for SPHA’s Efforts to Enhance Resident Security.

2015

June – “First Runner Up” in the Housing Authority Insurance Group’s 2015 Best Practices and Housing Authority Risk Retention Innovation Awards for SPHA’s Best Practices for Agency Maintenance Action Planning. The HAI Group also awarded an “Honorable Mention” to SPHA for Best Practices for Tenant Volunteer Incentive Programs.

2014

January – “Honorable Mention” in the Housing Authority Insurance Group’s 2013 Best Practices and Housing Authority Risk Retention Innovation Awards for “Program to Reduce Workplace Stress and Employee Turnover.” The HAI Group also presented SPHA with the “Outstanding Risk Control Program Award” for 2013.

July – “First Runner Up” in the Housing Authority Insurance Group’s 2014 Best Practices and Housing Authority Risk Retention Innovation Awards for SPHA’s Community Policing and Crime Prevention efforts.

2013

July – National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials’ (NAHRO) Awards of Merit for five (5) of SPHA’s programs: Program to House Youth Aging Out of Foster Care, the Housing Choice Voucher Education Initiative, Father’s Day Event, the Smoking Risks Education Initiative, and the Resident Training Program with Contractor Role.

2012

December – National 2012 Nan McKay and Associates’ (NMA) Excellence in Housing Award for SPHA’s Demonstration Program to House Youth Aging Out of Foster Care

July – National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials’ (NAHRO) Award of Merit in Housing and Community Development for “Collaborations in Developing Fairway Gardens”

July – “Honorable Mention” in the Housing Authority Insurance Group’s 2012 Best Practices and Housing Authority Risk Retention Innovation Awards for “Smoking Risks Education Initiative for Public Housing Residents”

2011

July – National Association of Housing and Redevelopment Officials’ (NAHRO) Award of Merit in Housing and Community Development for SPHA’s Section 3 Resident Skills Assessment program
