HUD Awards Supportive Services Funding to SPHA

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Awards Supportive Services Funding to the St. Petersburg Housing Authority

St. Petersburg, FL - On Tuesday, April 6, 2021, The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's (HUD) Office of Public and Indian Housing (PIH) announced the recipients of the Fiscal Year 2020 Resident Opportunity and Self-Sufficiency (ROSS) Grant.

The St. Petersburg Housing Authority (SPHA or "Authority") is pleased to announce its receipt of a $186,850 award, which will be utilized evenly over a three-year period (equaling just over $62,283 per year), starting June 1, 2021 and ending May 31, 2024.

With these funds, the Authority will create and maintain a Social Service Coordinator position to provide case management and support services to the residents of Jordan Park Apartments.

"Thanks to the ROSS Grant, SPHA will be able to better assist residents of Jordan Park during the community's extensive redevelopment, as well as connect more families to career and homeownership opportunities," said Michael Lundy, SPHA Chief Executive Officer.

HUD's ROSS Service Coordinator Program, under which these funds were awarded, gives public housing providers the financial ability to seek and collaborate with an extensive range of public and private community resources. In turn, these services increase tenants' income, reduce the need for welfare and move families closer to economic independence.

"I am looking forward to seeing these funds put to good use in our community and, on behalf of the St. Petersburg Housing Authority Board of Commissioners, would like to extend thanks to SPHA staff and Mr. Lundy for all the hard work and research that went into applying for and ultimately receiving this award," said Commissioner James Dates, Chairman of the SPHA Board of Commissioners.

SPHA will now begin the process of recruiting and hiring a ROSS Coordinator to work directly with our Jordan Park families and carry out the grant conditions outlined by HUD.
