Jordan Park rededication

ST. PETERSBURG, FLORIDA – The St. Petersburg Housing Authority (SPHA) hosted a Jordan Park Apartments Rededication Ceremony on Saturday, April 22nd. The event celebrated another new beginning for Jordan Park Apartments, its residents, and its presence in the community.

Speakers recounted their personal history with Jordan Park Apartments and gave their support to SPHA for committing to making a difference in the lives of the residents. Speakers included RISE Development Corporation Chairperson Stewart Olson, Congressman Charlie Crist, St. Petersburg Mayor Rick Kriseman, Assistant Police Chief Luke Williams, Joe Smith with the U.S. Department of Justice, Pinellas County Urban League President Watson Haynes, Wildwood Heights Neighborhood Association President Catherine Weaver, and Leah Brown with Charter Communications.

As Mayor Rick Kriseman noted in his remarks, SPHA is investing not only in the buildings, but also in the people in the community. One way SPHA is doing that is through partnering with the Pinellas County Urban League, St. Petersburg College, and Spectrum by Charter Communications to provide a summer reading program for Jordan Park children, along with a digital literacy program.

As a partner in furthering digital literacy efforts at Jordan Park, Spectrum announced their Spectrum Internet Assist program, a low-cost internet service that is available to Jordan Park residents, their Spectrum Housing Assist program, providing 120 Home Safety Kits to Jordan Park residents, and also presented SPHA with a donation to purchase new computers for the Jordan Park computer lab.

Local representatives from the Pinellas County Urban League, Career Source Pinellas, PSTA, Job Corp, Winning Reading Boost, Wildwood Heights Neighborhood Association, the Jordan Park Project Nostalgic Association, and the Police Athletic League (PAL) were also on hand to provide information to residents on available resources.

SPHA would like to thank the event speakers for supporting SPHA in its initiative to improve Jordan Park, Spectrum for providing the Home Safety Kits and monetary donation, the community organizations who provide services to our residents, and to Target (St. Petersburg – Gateway) and Publix for their monetary donations.

SPHA CEO Tony L. Love said, “We are so thankful to have the support of government officials, local organizations, and the community, as a whole, as we move forward in making positive changes at Jordan Park Apartments. The only way to make this happen is by working together. Today we took the first step:  the first of many to come.”
