SPHA’s Stimulus Projects
In 2009, the St. Petersburg Housing Authority (SPHA) received an allocation of approximately $1.3 million for the modernization of its public housing units under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA). The stimulus funding more than doubled the annual capital funding amount that SPHA typically would receive, allowing the housing authority to expedite necessary improvements to its public housing inventory and to create local jobs in the process. As of December 31, 2011, all of the housing authority's ARRA-funded projects have been completed and all stimulus funds expended, exceeding the federal government's March 2012 deadline.
