Chief Executive Officer’s Message - Celebrating 75 Years of Service

Thank you for visiting the St. Petersburg Housing Authority's website. As SPHA's Chief Executive Officer, it is very important to me that our programs and services are accessible to you. Through this website, we invite you to learn more about what the housing authority has to offer, including information for residents, landlords, and local businesses.

In 2012, SPHA is proud to celebrate our 75th year of service to the community. With a history of developing and administering affordable housing programs, we have earned national recognition as a leader and innovator in the assisted housing industry.

Through the recent addition of project-based housing vouchers and U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) - Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) vouchers for homeless veterans, SPHA now is able to provide more housing options for residents in and around the city of St. Petersburg. We also are working to acquire or develop more public and affordable housing properties throughout our jurisdictional area, which encompasses the city of St. Petersburg and a 10-mile radius outside of the city. In addition to providing a wider variety of housing options for low-income families, our goals for the agency's future are to reduce the concentration of poverty in some areas of the city per U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) regulations, to encourage residents’ access to jobs, and to encourage residents to pursue education. Through programs like Section 3, college scholarship assistance, and personalized tutoring, we strive to give our residents the tools they need to obtain financial stability and to break free from government assistance.
